Lent, in most Christian belief systems is the forty-day period of fasting and prayer before Easter. The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where, according to the Bible, he endured temptation by Satan. Different churches will calculate the forty days differently.
The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer—through prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial—for the annual commemoration of the death and resurection of Christ, as celebrated during Holy Week, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter.
Lent lasts from Ash Wednesday until Holy Saturday. This year Lent begins on February 6th. We need to begin to contemplate if we wish to do
any personal practices during this holy time. Give yourself some time to think and reflect, there is no need to share this with anyone. This is between you and your Higher Power. I think practicing the silence is most powerful.
Sometimes we talk things to death, and then in the end, ultimately do nothing. We have used all our energy talking about what we are going to do and what it means. So make your plans and your commitment if you wish to do so. More on lent later, Lela
